Hello, Lovely Bookclubbers. Still wishing for a little Christmas cheer in the hot summer sun? We’ve got just the cheerful charmer for you… Christmas with the Laird by Scarlet Wilson.
It’s official – for Juliette Connolly Christmas is a bust and she’s definitely not in the spirit of Christmas. She’s been dumped by her boyfriend and replaced by a younger model. Then a clause in her contract means she and a mysterious colleague have to work over Christmas. But there’s much more to Andrew Campbell than meets the eye. Especially when it turns out he’s the Scottish Laird of the haunted house they’re filming in.
And it seems like there’s magic in the air in the remote snow-filled setting. The local village contains a cast of Christmas characters and even though the boiler in the drafty house is broken the temperature is definitely rising.
Maybe Andrew and Juliette are about to be sprinkled with a little Christmas fairy dust?
Presenter Juliette and cameraman Andrew must film another episode of Haunted Ever After when a fatal accident leads producers to cancel one the upcoming scheduled show. The problem is, it’s Christmas! Tasked with the job to get a new episode ready to air in less than a week, Juliette and Andrew are contractually forced to spend the holiday together.
Newly single and flying solo while her family lavishes on a tropical island for the holiday, Juliette wishes she had simply swallowed the shame of being dumped and hopped on the plane. But when she looks closely at Andrew for the first time, she wonders if this just might not be worth it.
Andrew, used to looking at Juliette through the lens of the camera, finds she is far more fascinating up front. But Juliette’s presence in his family home brings back memories Andrew had no intentions of confronting.
Loved this little nip of Christmas cheer. This story is like eggnog—creamy, spicy and with a good amount of kick. Just might read this one again next year.
